Materials:

SUSAN BATES® or

MARCIA LYNN® Circular Knitting Needles

Size 7 [4.5 MM]-16" and 29"

Size 9 [5.5 MM] -16" and 29" or size to give gauge Cable Stitch Holder

3 Stitch Holders

Knitting Worsted- 4 oz. skeins

4 (4, 5, 5) skeins Color Desired

GAUGE: Stock St- 4 sts=1", 6 rows= 1"

Directions are for Size 36. Changes for Sizes 38, 40 and 42 are in parentheses. Entire garment is made in one piece from the neck down.

PATTERN #1: Worked on 8 sts.

Rnds 1-4, 6-10, and 12: P 2, K 4, P 2.

Rnd 5: P 2, sl next 2 sts to cable holder and hold in back, K 2, K 2 from cable holder, P 2.

Rnd 11: P 2, sl next 2 sts to cable holder and hold in front, K 2, K 2 from cable holder, P 2.

Rep Rnds 1-12 for Pat #1.

PATTERN #2: Worked on 20 sts.

Rnd 1: * SI 1 st to cable holder and hold in back (SI B), K 1, K 1 from cable holder, sl next st to cable holder and hold in front (SI F), K 1, K 1 from cable holder; rep from * across.

Rnd 2, 3: Knit.

Rnd 4: * SI F, K 1, K 1 from cable holder, SI B, K 1, K 1 from cable holder; rep from * across.

Rnd 5, 6: Knit.

Rep Rnds 1-6 for Pat #2.

Beg at neck with larger 16" needle, cast on 60 sts. Join, being careful not to twist sts. Mark beg of ea rnd. Rnd 1: '1‹ 24 for back, put marker, K 6 for sleeve, put marker, (P 2, K 20, P 2) for front, put marker, K 6 for sleeve.

Rnd 2: Inc 1 st (to inc: K in front and back of same st), * K to 1 st before next marker, inc 1 st in ea of next 2 sts *; rep bet *'s once, P 1, work Rnd 1 of Pat #2 on next 20 sts, P 1, inc in next 2 sts, K to within 1 st of last marker, inc 1 st- 8 sts inc'd.

Rnd 3: K 35, P 2, work Pat #2 on next 20 sts, P 2, K 9. Rnd 4: Inc 1 St before and after ea marker, keeping center 20 sts of front in Pat #2, and working 8 sts on either side of these 20 sts into Pat #1 as they are added. Note: Work rem inc'd sts in K.

Rnd 5: Work even in established pat.

Rep last 2 rnds 21(22, 23, 24) times more-244 (252, 260, 268) sts. Change to larger 29" needle when sts become crowded.

Divide for Body and Sleeves: K 70 (72, 74, 76) sts and sl to holder for back, K 52 (54, 56, 58) sts and sl to holder for sleeve, work in Pats on next 70 (72, 74, 76) sts and sl to holder for front.

SLEEVES: Cast on 1 (2, 3, 4) sts, K rem 52 (54, 56, 58) sts, turn, cast on 1 (2, 3, 4) sts. P across row. Work back and forth in Stock St (K on right side, P on wrong side) on 54 (58, 62, 66) sts for' 8 rows. Dec 1 st ea end on next row, then every 6th row 6 (7, 9, 11) times. Work even on 40 (42, 42, 42) sts until sleeve measures 151/2 (16, 16, 161/4)" from underarm, or 3" less than desired finished length, end P row. Change to smaller 16" needle. Work in (K 1, P 1) ribbing for 3". Bind off in ribbing. Work other sleeve in same manner.

BODY: With right side facing and larger 29" needle, K sts from back holder, cast on 2 (4, 6, 8) sts, work in established pat across sts fom front holder, cast on 2 (4, 6, 8) sts. Join. Work even on 144 (152, 160, 168) sts until piece measures 15 (15, 16, 16)" from underarm, or 3" less than desired finished length. Change to smaller 29" needle. Work in (K 1, P 1) ribbing for 3". Bind off.

NECKBAND: Beg at back, with right side facing and smaller 16" needle, pick up 60 sts around entire neckline. Join. Work in ribbing for 21/2", inc'ing 10 (12, 12, 14) sts, evenly spaced, on 1st rnd. Bind off loosely in ribbing.

FINISHING: Sew sleeve seams. Fold neckband in half to wrong side and tack in place.
