Artist Trading Cards

Artist's trading cards or ATC's are minature works of art measuring the same as the modern day baseball card. The measurements of an artist trading card is 21⁄2 by 3 1⁄2 inches (64 mm × 89 mm).

The ATC movement developed out of the mail art movement and has its origins in Switzerland. Cards are produced in various media, including dry media (pencils, pens, markers, etc.), wet media (watercolor, acrylic paints, etc.), paper media (in the form of collage, papercuts, found objects, etc.) or even metals or fiber. The cards are usually traded or exchanged. When sold, they are usually referred to as art card editions and originals (ACEOs).

Most ATCs are created on paper, but they may also be any other medium that can be worked in a suitable size. They're a great way to exchange your own artistic flair with other artists you meet. Some artists use them as they're own unique business card!

The first thing you need is your basic base. A substantial stiff paper such as heavy watercolor paper or any stiff paper if paper is your material of choice. You can use a normal playing card as a base or a size check .
